The University of Canberra is a founding member of a consortium of social impact investors who have developed The Mill House. The Mill House is Canberra’s first (and only) dedicated social enterprise accelerator.
The goal of the program is to grow a high-quality pipeline of social ventures in the ACT and Region for corporate, foundation and individual social impact investors and, most importantly, for the benefit of the communities in our region.
The Mill House supports both ‘for-profit’ and ‘not-forprofit’ social ventures; enabling them to work side-by-side challenging, collaborating, and supporting each other in their respective aims of sustainable and scalable social change.
Why the Canberra Region?
The University of Canberra is specifically charged in its guiding legislation to, “pay special attention to the needs of the ACT and the surrounding regions” (University of Canberra Act, 1989). The University of Canberra recognises the value of social enterprise as an asset class that has the potential to deliver significant economic and social impact and the role that its students and graduates will play in the growth of for-purpose ventures.
Capital Ideas is an initiative of the University of Canberra funded by The Impact Investment Ready Discovery Grant, an initiative of Philanthropy Australia and the National Australia Bank (NAB).
